On Obox, you can purchase themes from our own site, Tumblr, Themeforest and you can get a free theme, so the main priority with our most recent update was to give the same experience to all user types. In the previous layout things were very disjointed and often confusing. With three different user types we have struggled to get users to register the right details and this was creating havoc when it came to logging in.
Previously you had to first select what kind of user you were and then enter in the relevant code in order to register and login. The amount of contact mails we got regarding this was a bit crazy and we absolutely had to do something about it.
We tested numerous page layouts and login methods but it seems that the more we tried the more confusing it got.
It is often easy to get caught in a bubble and miss the obvious answer that's staring you in the face. However we, eventually stumbled across the fix and when we realised we wanted to punch ourselves...
The fix
After much deliberation we asked ouselves "Why not just let anyone sign up?" We already have two free themes we can offer and once you are in the profile section we can tell you exactly what needs to be done without confusing you prior to login.
So the end result is that we have now officially opened up our profiles to anyone who signs up!
And so, a new Profile
Today marks the relaunch of your Profile section. For a while now we have been looking at a way to make the Obox Profile section more "sticky" and useful.
This has included a lot of soul searching in terms of the layout as well what is and isn't important. Even though we tried unconventional (and more exciting) layouts we eventually decided to settle for the tried and trusted route that most popular web co's have gone for.
The benefits of the new profile:
- Universal Sign Up - No longer the need to worry about a hash code or Themeforest Purchase number (finall).
- Free users, free themes - Anyone who registers will now gain access to our two free themes (this number will grow over time - yay).
- Theme Modifications - We now allow you to submit your theme modifications from your account.
- Affiliate Sign Up - Affiliate sign up has been moved to the profile section. Get signed up and starting making some money!
- Affiliate Graphs - Much improved layout of the affiliate graphs as well as quicker load times.
- Improved Layout - There is now a much more improved layout of your themes, affiliate stats and forum messages.
As with every part of our site the profiles will continue to evolve and become easier to use. We already have a number of things we want to do to make it even more awesome but we think this is a pretty epic start already. Let us know what you think!
