Hard to believe that Obox Themes turns two today, it's been a roller coaster ride since the beginning and we've enjoyed every bit of it. The team has grown from a two man machine to four strong. The results have been awesome to see and we are incredibly proud to have gotten this far.
To celebrate the big T.W.O we have launched a brand new theme called 'Casual', it's completely free and you can download it right away. Below are some more details about it.
Casual - A Freemium WordPress Theme
We have had an official Tumblr blog for over a year now but it has mostly gone unused since we launched it.
Initially we intended to close the site but when Peter, our new programmer, arrived we decided that the best/quickest way for him to learn 'The Obox Way' was if he converted a theme to WordPress.
He got going with our Obox Tumblr blog and his first attempt was so good that we decided to launch it as a free theme.
Casual is a personal tumblog template which uses the wootumblog plugin and features some useful color settings to taylor your sites look and feel.
Freemium, how does it work?
Casual is not your normal free theme, instead of giving you a watered down version of what we offer it will give you the option of paying to get the full set of features that a normal Obox theme offers, effectively making this a 'freemium' offer.

If you like what you see then for $50 you can upgrade your theme to contain the following:
- Typography manager
- Advertising manager
- SEO options
- Automatic updates
- Portfolio Page template
After you have downloaded Casual and decided that you like what you see but want that 'little bit extra' then simply hit the "Upgrade Now" button under the Theme Options section in you WordPress Dashboard. You will be redirected to 2checkout to pay for the upgrade and once payment is done you will be be able to download the new features!
The future of Obox Themes? We don't know either
Casual will be an acid test to see how successful a freemium approach can be. If you are already a member then simply login and go to your account where you will find it listed. If you are not yet part of the Obox Nation simply go to the theme page, register, download and boom you'll be rocking with some Obox awesomesauce!
